Let’s look at the reasons why you might have to vomit first:

The first reason is the poison in the bloodstream. It is often caused by consuming spoiled food. It will usually be experienced after you convince yourself that eating a week old pizza is okay or when you try out a new restaurant on the roadside which has been standing near a garbage dump for a long time.

When you get poisonous, expired food into your system, what you are doing is that you are releasing poisonous elements into your system, which may even prove fatal. However, before any serious repercussions occur, the area postrema in your system stops the poison from festering. It happens because the area postrema is present at the end of the bloodstream contains the poisonous elements at the time, and it can immediately detect them.

Once it does that, the entire body is alerted of the potential danger and commands it to get ready to expel out the poison. It means that even though it will make you feel very uncomfortable, your body is still trying to keep you alive.

The second reason is your nervous system. It is very important to know that your nervous system is the one that controls everything. The nervous system has controlled every movement you make and every breath you take. Other than that, since it is your nervous system’s job to keep you alive, it will also alert the other parts of the body that you have an element present in your throat that does not fit the space present and can lead you to death.

We all know that we have two passageways after our tongue; one is for swallowing and eating. If you eat something that goes into your air passageways instead of the esophagus, then your body will immediately expel all of the food out. It is like an instinctive reaction to your nervous system and your body to do that. It is again your body trying to save your life at the cost of comfort and your upholstery.

The third reason is your stomach and the nervous system as well. Your stomach has a certain capacity for storing things that you need to stay within the limits of when eating food. If you eat way more than the present capacity in your stomach, you are certainly going to suffer. When you eat too much, the extra food starts to expand the stomach walls, and when the expansions go beyond the stomach’s tolerance, to the point that it might rupture, then your nervous system gets you to vomit. You would still appreciate looking up how to get vomit smell out of upholstery than being rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The fourth reason is the stomach viruses. There are many bacterias that our immune system can battle off, but then some can successfully evade or preventive system. When this happens, these bacterias tend to set up camp in different parts of our bodies, including our stomach. The norovirus is one of the biggest examples of this happening. It leads to your gut becoming irritated, and your body expelling its stomach contents.

Your body responds to the internal and external cues when it comes to being induced to vomit. One of the major external sources is called motion sickness. It is also known as car sickness or seasickness. When the receptors on your body cannot communicate, something is happening outside the body, at once, to the nervous system. Since your nervous system is hidden behind the skin layer, its only way of knowing what is happening outside is through the body’s natural receptors: the eyes, nose, skin, muscles, and lips.

When you are in a car that is moving, you will find that your eyes are at a standstill. There are no certain jerk movements that you are affected. However, your muscles and skin are moving and vibrating, which tends to send your nervous system a very confusing message. Your brain often responds to these confusing messages with vomiting. There are not many people who will experience this, but some do which only stop once the movement does.

Many of the medicines that we may consume for different reasons tend to have severe side effects that cause users to feel nauseated or make us vomit. When they fix one problem, they bring in another. People who are on chemotherapy are often given medicines which may trigger nausea and vomiting. Those who consume OTC medicines such as iron or potassium are also forced to vomit since they tend to irritate the stomach and slow down the intestinal movements.
