Step 1 of 5
What metal is it?
This one matters. The formula is acidic, so it eats soft metals.
This one is not for that metal.
The 2 in 1 Rust Converter and Primer is a low pH coating. On aluminium, galvanised steel, zinc or lead it etches the surface instead of protecting it. It is made for iron, steel, cast iron and stainless steel.
If the galvanising has worn away and you are down to bare steel, it works. If you are not certain, write to us and describe the job before you buy.
What are you coating?
About how much surface?
Rough is fine. Length times height, both sides if you coat both. Type the number for a big job.
How will you put it on?
A sprayer loses some to drift and pooling, so it needs a little more product than a brush.
How rough is the metal?
Pits, channels and deep scale hold extra material, so they drink more.
Your plan
Work above 50F. Colder than that and it will not cure properly, whatever the forecast says about the days after.
Coverage is measured at 1.0 mil dry film. Damp metal is fine to coat. Wait 48 hours before any topcoat.
A gallon covers about 1,000 sq ft brushed on smooth steel, and about 530 sprayed on heavy scale. The questions above pick the right number for your job.
